He is a leading employment law barrister and accepts briefs in matters concerning employment law, industrial disputes and work health and safety matters.  He also maintains a broader commercial law practice, accepting briefs dealing with commercial disputes, equity and trusts, estates, defamation, building and construction and administrative law.

He has acted for port owners, mining companies, financial service providers, developers, builders, contractors, directors, workers and individuals.

James frequently appears in matters concerning industrial and employment disputes and breaches of work health and safety laws.

He has been briefed in a wide range of matters: industrial manslaughter, WH&S prosecutions, general protections, industrial disputes, Fair Work and Award claims, and commissions of inquiry.
